Microsoft has announced that on August 1st the price of the HD-DVD player is being dropped to $179.99, down from the current price of $199.99.

In addition to the price drop, similar to the Blu-Ray promotion, it was also announced that all purchases made for it made between August 1st and October 31st are eligible for 5 free HD-DVD titles by mail-in rebate. For additional information on that offer, you may click here.
